I do not understand why you would wrap a generally accurate and truthful article around a core falsehood. You even admit that long-term storage of high-level nuclear waste is not a problem, but then you parrot the lie that "it will remain potentially lethal for thousands of years" and encourage us to bury it where no one will ever be able to retrieve it. This is insane! Nuclear "waste" generally still contains 90-95% of the original fissionables and almost all the original U-238; it is just rendered unusable in the old boiling water slow-neutron reactors because of the buildup of neutron-gobbling fission products. Those can either be removed ("Oh no, not reprocessing!") or bypassed by using the "spent" fuel in modern fast-neutron reactors. That "spent" fuel is a precious resource!

I understand that you are following the NRC's example in pretending that low-level radiation is an accumulative hazard (it is not!) in order to mollify the craziest of the "No Nukes!" activists, but haven't you learned that they will never, ever listen to rational, objective, scientific data showing the innocuousness of radiation levels up to many times the NRC-recommended maximum doses? Radiation is ubiquitous, and always has been; some radiation is good for our health. You need to stand firm on the actual data. Don't be just another cowardly accommodator!
