Cheaper, longer-lived solar cells won't make the sun shine at night, and they won't generate more than a few hundred watts per square meter, because that's all the Sun delivers. If we wish to continue enjoying a high-power civilization, the ONLY replacement for fossil fuels is nuclear (fission) reactors.
