(1) "24/7" is a slight exaggeration. Every geosynchronous satellite passes into the Earth's shadow every 24 hours. It may stay in shadow less than 12 hours, but "24/7"? No.
(2) The power beams had better stay focused on a few reciever stations with very high fences and warning lights to prevent airplanes from flying through the beams. Birds, of course, will surely get microwaved all the time.
(3) Not a new idea.
